To make they are not able to know whether you see or not their status :
1. From main page of WhatsApp, tap the Menu ( 3 verticals icon, up right side).
2. Choose Settings.
3. Choose Account.
4. Choose Privacy.
5. Go to the Read receipts, Uncheck it.
How to see Whatsapp status without letting them know
